Today I spoke on the phone with Dr. Glenn Buckley, who is the CEO and owner of PetRescueRx.com. This is an on-line pet pharmacy and supply store, with a twist. This business donates all net profit (after paying bills, employees, and overhead costs) to animal rescues and shelters across the country. When you make a purchase, you designate to whom the profit will be paid. Rescue groups and shelters are encouraged to visit the website and register their organization so shoppers can find them at checkout.
Dr. Buckley told me the on-line store began last year and is gaining momentum as more people become aware of it. I told him I learned about the site from one of my clients, who requested I approve a prescription for her dog there. He stated they are working hard to get pharmacy licenses in all 50 states and expect to have this completed by the end of this year. They are licensed in Pennsylvania, meaning that they can sell both prescription and non-prescription items in our state. Dr. Buckley has this to say:
“Pet Rescue Rx is the better way. By purchasing pet medications through us you are directly funding animal shelters and rescue groups in your area. My original intention was to have Pet Rescue Rx be a not for profit 501C3. Internal Revenue Service regulations would not allow that but we will still follow their disclosure requirements. What does that mean? Well you can go to our website and see when, where and how much of the money is going to the shelters, as we promise. No high paid executives or stockholder dividends to worry about here.
I know that there is a passion for helping these pets find homes and fulfillment in being a part of something great. This will be great! And you will be a part of it. Just think about the shelters in your area both large and small which have suffered with funding and donation decreases. Think about all those faces that need our support and help. These faces still need food, and the comforts of air conditioning on a hot summer day, heat in the winter and a dry place to sleep. They need medical care and everything else that money can buy.”
What can you do to get involved? Here are three ways:
- Shop at PetRescueRx, for both prescription items such as heartworm medication and non-prescription items such as Frontline, ear cleanser, or shampoo. If you don’t find the product you are looking for on the site, contact them and they will try to get it for you. If the medication you want to order requires a prescription, they will contact your veterinarian for you.
- If you have adopted a pet in the past, reach out to the rescue or shelter and let them know how they can benefit from registering their organizations at PetRescueRx. The instructions for registering are located on their website.
- Spread the word to your friends and family! Like their Facebook page, follow them on Twitter, and pin them on Pinterest.
I think this is a win-win-win for everyone involved. What do you think? Will you do your part?
