From time to time, we hear from potential customers that we are too expensive. They say, “My vet will put my dog to sleep and cremate him for $xxx, and you want to charge me double!” People ask us to give them a discount. Sometimes people yell, or they simply hang up on us. Although some days we feel discouraged by this, we have never strayed from the principles that guide our business.
You see, every person involved with Peaceful Pet Passage believes in how we do things. If we didn’t adhere to the set of standards we’ve established, I for one would leave the company. What sets us apart? Here’s the Top 5 List:
- We specialize in end of life. We’re 100% dedicated to making your pet’s last moments dignified and peaceful. We understand how difficult this is for you and your family. We know that in many cases, you’ve been agonizing over this decision for weeks and sometimes months. We want to help take some of the stress off your shoulders. We have close to 20 years of experience helping families.
- We come to your home. Did you know that 70% of people polled say they would prefer to die at home, yet statistics show that only 25% actually do? Our pets don’t have the awareness of making this choice, yet in my opinion, the greatest gift you can give to your pet at the end of his life is a peaceful death at home, where he is surrounded by familiar sights, smells, and people he knows. Having performed euthanasia in both vet clinics and at home, I can tell you there is no comparison for the pet. Any anxiety associated with a car ride and entrance into the vet clinic is removed. In addition, pets experiencing pain due to their physical condition do not have to be moved.
- We sedate every pet. Although the American Veterinary Medical Association does not require sedation prior to giving euthanasia solution intravenously to dogs and cats, we believe that no pet should be euthanized without it. We use a combination of a sedative and pain reliever, given under the skin, to achieve twilight anesthesia. This means your pet doesn’t feel any pain or anxiety. Countless times pet owners have remarked to me about how comfortable and peaceful their pet is once the sedation takes effect.
- We transport your pet for cremation or burial. This means you don’t have to leave the privacy of your home. We place each pet in a specially-designed cloth sleeping bag and place him or her in one of our dedicated vehicles. Your pet never leaves our custody and is not shipped across or out of state. If you prefer to transport your pet to our facility, we are happy to accommodate this as well.
We are transparent about our services. If you elect to have your pet privately cremated, we video capture the entire cremation process as our guarantee that the urn you receive contains your pet, and only your pet. We provide a copy of the DVD to you, and we archive a copy. If we cannot give you a copy of the DVD due to technical difficulties, the entire service is free. All clients are asked if they wish to be present during the cremation (you may be surprised to know that a fair number do attend). If you elect a memorial cremation, your pet is cremated with other pets, and for this reason, we cannot return any remains to you. Instead, the remains are buried on the grounds of our cemetery, next to the PA State Pet Memorial. In both cases, your pet’s name is laser engraved on black granite as our tribute to your pet’s life. We welcome visitors to the Memorial, which is located at 210 Andersontown Road, Mechanicsburg, PA.
We are aware that our services are not for everyone. Only you can decide how you want to handle the end of your pet’s life. We know that the manner in which we help families and pets is exactly how each of us would want to be treated, compassionately, honestly, and with the utmost dignity.
P.S. If you’ve made it to the end of this blog post, thanks for sticking with me. I know this is a tough topic to think about. I’d like to invite you to join our community on Facebook, where over 2,300 pet lovers offer support to each other on a daily basis.
